BASMOCA

A Virtual Museum as a Bridge

Basmoca - Virtual Museum

The concept for BASMOCA began in 2010. While virtual museums are becoming a norm nowadays, back then this was not the case. BASMOCA (which stands for Basma Al Sulaiman Museum of Contemporary Art) was initiated as a tool to share the collection both locally and internationally. After being exposed to several public collections abroad, Basma decided to find a way to share her collection for educational purposes and to foster a dialogue between Saudi art and the rest of the world.

In 2011, Basma launched BASMOCA the first virtual museum of its kind to share her collection with a wider public. Since its debut, BASMOCA has used cutting-edge technology to bring a contemporary art collection and its journey into the minds and the lives of as many people who were interested and inspired to explore this new space regardless of age, gender, ethnic, cultural or socio-economic identities.

BASMOCA 3.0 will be launched in 2024. Following its previous versions which can be found in our Talks section, Basmoca will continue to remain an immersive platform, a beacon of the power of advanced mixed realities technology. Seamlessly merging the digital and physical, BASMOCA aims at establishing an environment of extraordinary realism and superior rendering quality. It's a three-dimensional digital space, meticulously designed to echo the richness of our tangible reality, while transcending its inherent constraints.
